DRUGS: “Want Some?”

Has someone asked you if you want any drugs? Here's how to get out of a sticky situation.

Want some? Sometimes these words are very inviting. Sometimes they are attached to a soda, or a cookie, or if you’re really lucky a date. But sometimes things don’t go all that well and they are attached to drugs. What are you supposed to do when you are offered drugs? This is all about what you should know about street drugs and what to do about being offered them. Whether you are hitting up the swingsets, the kegger, the concert, the Taco Bell, or the basketball court, at some point someone will probably offer you drugs. Although most of these situations involve marijuana you could be presented with these situations with any kind of drug.

1) “The Single” situation: A person comes up to you and asks if you want to buy some weed. There is no one else around and you don’t even know the person. Easy one, you walk away, nothing ever happened. No one is there to heckle you for not buying it or even thinking about buying it. And the seller just thinks that you are probably not the right person to have asked. Saying no to drugs in a new style.

2) “The Group” situation: A seller comes up to you with some weed and you are with all of your friends. You don’t want to look like a loser because as you have been told “everyone is doing it.” There are a couple of easy options on this one. One, you can just ignore the guy and act like he never even came up to you. Two, turn to one of your buddies and ask “how ‘bout them Bears?” The third one requires lying. Now I know that your parents probably told you never to lie, but this might just be one of those times where they would be proud of you for lying. Say that you already have enough. Surprisingly this will actually work. It will either confuse the hell out of the person enough that they don’t know what to do and walk away, or they will bother you some more and you can then call them a moron for not understanding that you have better stuff. Your friends, whether they are for or against marijuana will probably applaud you on a job well done. Saying no to drugs in a new style.

3) “The Party” situation: A person comes up to you at a party and offers you a joint of marijuana. The party is already awkward because you don’t know that many people and all the people there are cool kids. You don’t want to look uncool or do something that would put you lower down on the totem poll. What do you do? This is where you put a slight twist on “just say no”. You say, “No thanks man, I already had plenty for tonight.” Or you can say “No thanks, I’m waiting for my friends to get here to smoke.” You could also say “Yeah, hold on one second, I have to run to the bathroom” and then never come back. This might be your best option, because they probably won’t wait for you and once they have smoked they won’t remember where you went. And if you aren’t worried about what everyone else will think “just say no”. Saying no to drugs in a new style.

4) “The Friend” situation: This is the hardest situation of all because it involves friends. You are at your friend’s house and you and five of your best friends are all hanging out. All of a sudden little Johnny pulls out a joint and asks if you want some? As the eyes of your friends beat down on you, you start to panic. First things first, if these are truly your friends they won’t care what you do. Secondly, if you think the first answer is bogus then we have another trick up our sleeves. Say in a funny voice, “I don’t do drugs. Drugs are bad for you. (loudly) UP WITH HOPE AND DOWN WITH DOPE!” Hopefully everyone will laugh and then when everyone is doing that you say no that’s cool. If you don’t think this will work and your friends are not very funny than take the joint. What! you say? Here is the trick (which we call “The Clinton”; You take the joint in your mouth and instead of sucking in, you blow out gently. This will make it look like something happened and then you quickly pass it on. Cocaine can be snorted in lines. Say no to drugs in a new style.

5) “The Hard Drug” Situation: These can be a little trickier than marijuana or alcohol, but there are still some tricks to get you out of a sticky situation. We’ll start with Ecstasy. You are at a party and someone comes up and asks if you want some E. There are a ton of problems with this. The first is that you don’t know this person, and the second is that you don’t know this person. Ecstasy is one of the easier drugs to make and can be made using some very bad stuff. Often times they can contain amphetamine (speed), Ketamine (which is a tranquilizer normally used on horses and otherwise known as Special K), and basically anything else that could make a person feel different. Sometimes there is just caffeine in these pills and sometimes other over-the-counter stuff like Aspirin. Yes, some Ecstasy pills are made with the real ingredients (MDMA/4-Methylenedioxy-N-Methylamphetamine), but the fact is that whether they are made with real ingredients or not they aren’t good for you. Saying no to drugs in a new style.

With any hard drug you always have to wonder what you are actually getting, besides the fact that you probably shouldn’t be doing these things anyway. When approached by someone with these drugs just refer back to the lying thing. Whether someone approaches you with cocaine, heroin, or whatever it is, just say that you don’t like using that certain drug and that you prefer a different one. Or you can say that you already have enough of the drug. Of course, you can always be the cooler person and just walk away.
