6) What is the new vaccine I heard about for HPV and much does it cost?
ANSWER: Today we talk about the new HPV Vaccine - Gardasil! HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is most well known as the virus that causes genital warts . HPV is also a major factor in causing cervical cancer (in women).
By the age of 50 nearly 80% of all men and women will have been exposed to the virus . It is the most common STI. The vaccine is given in a series of three shots over a six month period and is recommended for females ages 9-26 (more studies are being done to see if males should get it).
The vaccine costs around $360 total (for three shots), but talk to your parents, or docotor, or local clinic or Planned Parenthood to find out about a reduced price or even getting it free!
