SEX: “Don’t be a fool, wrap your tool”

If you couldn't get your hands on one of those red-hot copies of DASH and still want to get all that info about Condoms, then you're in luck! We've put all the info that's in the magazine right here on the web.

You sit down in health class and what does your teacher say first? “Remember everyone, abstinence is the only way to be 100 percent sure of not getting pregnant or contracting any STD’s! ” After pushing her glasses back up on her face she goes right into that same ol’ boring tone that never fails to put you to sleep. Abstinence is clearly not a bad thing, but what if you have already made the choice to go past that stage? Whether you are a girl or a guy you might as well know a good way to stay safe now. If this is your first lesson in condoms then we’ve got you covered, and if you think you already know everything there is to know about condoms hold onto your (jimmy) hats, because you have a lot to learn. So, saddle up and don’t be a loner, cover your boner! This is all about condoms and how to use them.

WHY DO I HAVE TO USE A CONDOM?

There are lots of reasons to wear condoms, but the first one is too keep a girl from getting pregnant. The main purpose of a condom is to catch the male’s ejaculate, but an added benefit is the fact that they actually stop many sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s are now being called STI’s, which stands for sexually transmitted infections). A 2-year study was done of couples in which one member is infected with HIV and the other is not. The report found that among 124 couples who reported consistent use of latex condoms, none of the uninfected partners became infected. In contrast, among the 121 couples who used condoms inconsistently, 12 (or 10%) of the uninfected partners became infected. What this mumbo jumbo translates into is that even if you use a condom occasionally you still have a 10% chance of getting in some trouble. That is why it is so important to use them every time and use them correctly. Besides these obvious health benefits there are some other reasons why you should use a condom. You will feel a lot more secure about your decision after the fact, because you won’t be left worrying if you might have contracted an STI or gotten the girl pregnant. Yes there is a drawback in the lack of sensitivity from the use of condoms, but the good side to this is that you will last longer, which can be a positive thing.

SO HOW DO YOU USE THOSE THANGS?!

Many people believe that they can just unwrap a condom and throw it on and it will work. Wrong. One problem with this is that there is an inside and an outside to the condom. Another problem is that you can get what is called “pre-cum” on the condom. “Pre-cum” contains a large amount of sperm and it is just as important to protect against. Only consistent correct use of a condom can help prevent STI’s and pregnancy. Since I figured that it would take me an awful long time to explain how to properly use a condom and because pictures are supposed to be worth a thousand words, go ahead and check out our cool little cartoon of how to use a condom.
